The Astrids Headline At The Underground - 17/01/20

Finally, an Astrids headline show. It certainly didn't disappoint...

FIKA, Leed's newest girl band, hit the stage for the first time. They kicked off the night with their own song, '1984', to get the crowd going. An audience favourite was the bands rendition of 'She Will' by Savages, a noise rock band from London. As their 20 minute set started to come to a close, a group of boys at front got everyone shouting 'FIKA, FIKA, FIKA'. The final song played was another original written by the girls named Bitten. The gritty, bassy melody along with their feminine flair was an ideal tune to end their set with. A truly successful night for this trio and brilliant considering it was their first live performance together.

Next on was dream pop band, Juliper Sky. Formed in July 2019, this 5 piece have already had songs featured on BBC London, KEXP and Amazing Radio. Big things seem to be happening these boys in 2020 so definitely keep an eye on them if you enjoy bands like Slowdive and Beach House. During the performance of their debut single, 'Heaven', it was certainly amazing to see everyone dancing with friends to this mellow, shoegaze inspired tune. For any London based readers, Juliper Sky will be playing at The Lexington in Islington on the 19th February!

After a long wait, The Astrids finally hit the stage and opened up their set with fan favourite, Arcadian Sound. This was their first ever headliner and will be followed by another headline performance at Santiago Bar on 24th January! The boys played such a successful set that they were called back for an encore after they'd finished. Their second single release, Space Design, was performed one more time and gave a wonderful end to such a fantastic night. Lead vocalist, Sam Lunn, said 'We had no idea people would actually show up, never mind want more! We have another cover that we jam, Riders On The Storm by The Doors, but it wouldn't have been the right mood to end on so we just played Space Design again [to] get people hyped'. I'm sure that 2020 has big things in store these boys and to anyone reading this, I definitely recommend catching them live sometime this year.
